oggi mi sento un po' patriota..

Fratelli d'Italia,
l'Italia s'è desta,
dell'elmo di Scipio
s'è cinta la testa.
Dov'è la Vittoria?
Le porga la chioma,
che schiava di Roma
Iddio la creò.
Stringiamoci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò.
Stringiamoci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò, sì!

Noi fummo da secoli
calpesti, derisi,
perché non siam popoli,
perché siam divisi.
Raccolgaci un'unica
bandiera, una speme:
di fonderci insieme
già l'ora suonò.
Stringiamoci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò, sì!

Uniamoci, uniamoci,
l'unione e l'amore
rivelano ai popoli
le vie del Signore.
Giuriamo far libero
il suolo natio:
uniti, per Dio,
chi vincer ci può?
Stringiamoci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò, sì!

Dall'Alpe a Sicilia,
Dovunque è Legnano;
Ogn'uom di Ferruccio
Ha il core e la mano;
I bimbi d'Italia
Si chiaman Balilla;
Il suon d'ogni squilla
I Vespri suonò.
Stringiamoci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò, sì!

Son giunchi che piegano
Le spade vendute;
Già l'Aquila d'Austria
Le penne ha perdute.
Il sangue d'Italia
E il sangue Polacco
Bevé col Cosacco,
Ma il cor le bruciò.
Stringiamoci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò, sì!

(anche se non e' per patria mia)

Women to blame for earthquakes, says Iran cleric

Women behaving promiscuously are causing the earth to shake, according to cleric, as Ahmadinejad predicts Tehran quake

A senior Iranian cleric says women who wear revealing clothing and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes.

Iran is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, and the cleric's unusual explanation for why the earth shakes follows a prediction by the president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that a quake is certain to hit Tehran and that many of its 12 million inhabitants should relocate.

"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Women in the Islamic Republic are required by law to cover from head to toe, but many, especially the young, ignore some of the more strict codes and wear tight coats and scarves pulled back that show much of the hair. "What can we do to avoid being buried under the rubble?" Sedighi asked during a prayer sermon last week. "There is no other solution but to take refuge in religion and to adapt our lives to Islam's moral codes." Seismologists have warned for at least two decades that it is likely the sprawling capital will be struck by a catastrophic quake in the near future. Some experts have even suggested Iran should move its capital to a less seismically active location. Tehran straddles scores of fault lines, including one more than 50 miles long, though it has not suffered a major quake since 1830.

In 2003, a powerful earthquake hit the southern city of Bam, killing 31,000 people – about a quarter of that city's population – and destroying its ancient mud-built citadel.

"A divine authority told me to tell the people to make a general repentance. Why? Because calamities threaten us," said Sedighi, Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader. Referring to the violence that followed last June's disputed presidential election, he said: "The political earthquake that occurred was a reaction to some of the actions [that took place]. And now, if a natural earthquake hits Tehran, no one will be able to confront such a calamity but God's power, only God's power ... So let's not disappoint God."

The Iranian government and its security forces have been locked in a bloody battle with a large opposition movement that accuses Ahmadinejad of winning last year's vote by fraud.

Ahmadinejad made his quake prediction two weeks ago but said he could not give an exact date. He acknowledged that he could not order all of Tehran's 12m people to evacuate. "But provisions have to be made ... at least 5 million should leave Tehran so it is less crowded," the president said.

The welfare minister, Sadeq Mahsooli, said prayers and pleas for forgiveness were the best "formulae to repel earthquakes. We cannot invent a system that prevents earthquakes, but God has created this system and that is to avoid sins, to pray, to seek forgiveness, pay alms and self-sacrifice," Mahsooli said.

what's the story?

a trail of smoke slips away to the right
large bay windows before him
the wooden blinds drawn
light slips in the the joins of the slats
he taps away feverishly but regularly
the blinds drawn now
the sun streams in
distant trees and and manicured gardens
the facing skyscrapers of a megalopolis
distant movement in a couple of windows
the man types on
beyond the dark rooftops
boats ease slowly, imperceptibly across the distant bay
children run amok in the schoolyard below as the sky dims
shouting and bickering in groups and launching balls about
the chair empty as the typewriter sits at rest
an orange light radiates from below the treetops
an unopened letter now sits under the lamp
small rectangles of unnatural light from the facing building catch the eye
the writer seated again typing furiously now
as if to imprint an idea before it flees
the cigarette smoke drifts up from behind his brown hair
the rat-a-tat of the keys ricochets off the walls
only tiny lights from distant freighters over the dark marine emptiness
silence has fallen over the old school building and foregrounds
the memories of childish squeals hang like ghosts by the quadrangle stairs
the light of the desk lamp throws the white panes in relief
the authors figure is in silhouette, immovable
voices creep in from an adjoining room
the typewriter sits in solitude in the crude electric light
brown wooden shutters emanate a Nordic feel
darkness and silence as the typewriter sits once again solidly and solemnly
the eternal inanimate object

addio e grazie mille nonna...

today in deepest southern melbourne
there was a get together
more than a hundred people showed
nice things were said
and probably a few not-so-nice things were thought
old acquaintances were renewed
even though some probably didnt want to
a bit of public speaking went on
singing the praises of one old person in particular
a man belonging to an archaic institution said his bit
plenty of tears were shed
after the formalities a fair amount mingling occurred
more than some of it was awkward
photos were gawked at
and reminiscing was afoot
it was a sad day

at least thats my best guess...

pacs-man romanus

there is a lot to like about the romans
i dont mean the shouting, vespa riding and madly gesticulating ones
i mean the ones from the empire
you know
thracia, illyria, gallia, hibernia and all that jazz
they had some really fab ideas
acqueducts that brought water from afar
super straight roads that covered a continent
gladitorial fights to the death
magnificent edifices such as the pantheon, circus maximus and colosseums etc
they had gods for all kinds of cool things including Bacchus, the god of wine, Cardea, the goddess of thresholds, Cloacina, goddess of sewers and Nodutus, god who made knots in stalks of wheat
they devised new ways of waging war
organised massive orgies
promoted art of the highest forms
indulged in cheeses, wines and pure hedonism
developed many different sciences including philosophy and astronomy
ruled the entire known world
had cool names like Severus, Flavius and Scipio

and their most magnificent achievement?

they threw christians to the lions!!! Brilliant!

this blog has been rather absent of late
not for a second because of lack of events
more an over abundance of them

when a person is not around any more
that can knock a blog a bit askew
this blog has been pointing north-south-west

where the wild things might be

this blog is going on holiday
its bad news for the myriad of murders out there
hanging on every bollocks
its going where the wild things might be
over the land
and over the sea (but not really)
in a vessel of sorts
not strictly nautical
and disembarking sort of on rocky shores
or at least nearby
there might be wild things there
vombati and canguri etc
jumping about breaking stuff and having tanties
some sulking and hairy
some cranky and bouncy
with extra undertones of love and relationships
or just eating stuff
will they want to eat us?
where
I
I will be king
and you
you will be queen
though nothing
will drive them away

but will it learn something?

Gay prostitution scandal rocks Pope Benedict

Pope Benedict XVI

"Pope Paedophile the 258th- "i will have.... ummm it's too hard! ...all of them!"

A St Peter’s Basilica chorister has been caught allegedly procuring male prostitutes for a Gentleman of His Holiness

LAST UPDATED 11:16 AM, MARCH 5, 2010

Pope Benedict XVI is embroiled in a deeply embarrassing scandal after it emerged that a senior member of his household has been implicated in a gay prostitution ring, along with a St Peter's Basilica chorister.

The latest sexual scandal to rock the Vatican came to light yesterday when it was revealed that the chorister, 29-year-old Thomas Chinedu Ehiem, had been sacked for allegedly procuring male prostitutes for a papal gentleman-in-waiting.

Angelo Balducci, a Gentleman of His Holiness who serves in the Vatican's Apostolic Palace, had negotiated with Ehiem, a Nigerian-born Vatican chorister, over the specific physical attributes of the men he wanted brought to him.

The details of how Balducci and Ehiem were caught out reads like a storyline from cult US crime drama The Wire, after police wiretaps captured the pair's incriminating conversations.

Balducci, who is also a senior Italian government official, had originally been under investigation for corruption. The wiretaps were set up as part of a police probe into the awarding of contracts to build public works. Balducci was arrested on corruption charges on February 10 - the allegations of prostitution emerged only later.

The transcripts suggest that over a period of around five months in 2008, Ehiem procured for Balducci at least 10 male prostitutes. They included "two black Cuban boys", a former male model from Naples and a rugby player from Rome.

The wiretaps also showed that at least one of the men was a seminarian, studying to join the priesthood. In one transcript, recorded in January, Balducci is quoted as asking Ehiem: "At what time does he have to return to the seminary?"

It is by no means the first time the Roman Catholic Church has been tainted by a sex scandal. In recent years several paedophilia scandals have thrown light on the abuse of children by priests in Ireland, Germany and the United States over decades. And in 2007 the Vatican suspended a senior official who was filmed apparently propositioning a young man in his office.
