there is a lot to like about the romans
i dont mean the shouting, vespa riding and madly gesticulating ones
i mean the ones from the empire
you know
thracia, illyria, gallia, hibernia and all that jazz
they had some really fab ideas
acqueducts that brought water from afar
super straight roads that covered a continent
gladitorial fights to the death
magnificent edifices such as the pantheon, circus maximus and colosseums etc
they had gods for all kinds of cool things including Bacchus, the god of wine, Cardea, the goddess of thresholds, Cloacina, goddess of sewers and Nodutus, god who made knots in stalks of wheat
they devised new ways of waging war
organised massive orgies
promoted art of the highest forms
indulged in cheeses, wines and pure hedonism
developed many different sciences including philosophy and astronomy
ruled the entire known world
had cool names like Severus, Flavius and Scipio
and their most magnificent achievement?
they threw christians to the lions!!! Brilliant!
