Unfamiliar Skirts

its such a pleasant change

to have a cool song rattling around

as opposed to the usual calculated products

that are bespoke created to burrow in

like a particularly banal yet sinister brainworm

head hunters! - not any more

orangutans! - still a handful hanging in there

pygmy elephants and other amazing beasties!- see above

untrammelled wildest of wild jungle! - not a lot, probably about none

ever increasing and massive palm oil plantations are laying waste 

to the once sprawling and impenetrable jungle 

and driving amazing critters to the brink of extinction

on the third largest island on the planet!

in 2015

imagine the carnage almost 10 years later!

they are e-fucking-normous and they are every-fucking-where

and its ex-fucking-tremely disheartening

the end of ramadan is a big deal in malaysia

its known the world over as eid al-fitr

in kuching the state premier hosts an 'open house'

in the giant convention centre

where all and sundry can show up for a free meal

and tens of thousands do

the masses rocked up 

and patiently queued

the malays in stunning and colourful traditional pakaians

the chinese and indians in normal clobber

some orang putihs get dressed up too

our delightful hostel host provided some lovely items for many

and arranged for transport to and (a)fro!

with a mixture of not wishing to queue for ever

and innocent faced tourist chutzpah

i blagged my way all over the shoppe

and wandered all over the convention centre

including up in the gods 

entering alongside the baffled vips and assembled media

and a stroll and cake admiration session in the vip dining area

it was a luffly old time

bathing in the goodwill

(and good food)

on this important civic occasion...

che piacere che sanno ancora fare un bel film

non avevo visto un film di qualita di AGG da anni

anche quelli alla fine del loro 'eta d'oro' 

mi hanno lasciati delusi

ma questo qua e decisamente bello

non e all'altezza di tre uomini e una gamba

ma pochi sono

e' divertente

e' buffo

e' c'e anche il cuore 

(senza essere banale)

and being outwitted by ginger simians

my basic kit had a mutual hari kiri compact

and cellular suicide

its a small friendly city and the capital of sarawak...

and its definitely tropical

at only 170 kms from the equator

its hot and sweaty

(especially if your thermostat is on the blink)

with all kinds of funky jungle wildlife not that far away

(its name is pronounced the same is the indo/malay word, kucing (cat)

and they lean into it big time

with cat themed stuff everywhere

from rubbish bins and hostel names to giant statues...
