its a lovely place with lovely people not sure about the security situation lately, but i dont follow the news that closely. if you do go there, let me know.. i can recommend a couple of cool places to stay with sound people.
also.. this bloke was a high ranking govt type.. and what he says is correct. from my limited understanding, the country has taken an unpleasant venezuela type turn in recent years... i know there have been several violent supressions of public protests in recent years. but i havent heard of any recent ones.
whether that affects your plans, thats up to you. im sure the tourism industry would be very happy to have you peace, afuera!

ohh ometepe! i spent some time there while i waiting for a travel document to come from el DEF (to replace my stolen passport etc.) sadly i wasnt super well, so didnt get up to much, but it was a lovely place to do fuck all.
if you go to nica, be super careful of your belongings on public transport! i got lazy and consequently screwed over.
